The diction in this book is a lot more advanced and complex than many other middle grade books and I personally used it as a benchmark in my own writing for not talking down to a young audience (which I find many, many middle grade and even young adult books do). But "The Hunger" ends up being the best Venom story I can recall reading because it offers an interesting reinterpretation of the relationship between the suit and Eddie, which involves Spider-Man as well. —with some of the ballsiness and spunk of Joe Beef. As some of The Blacker the Ink’s scholars broke down the dynamics of multilayered socio-political tissue that composed each subject, I was able to see which of these writers… both creators and critics… accepted the exploiter class in their self-appointed role as signatories of the West’s racial social contract or not. Being that it's a paper back instead of board book, I was assuming it would be a little more challenging. The boys become friends, and the other boys in the group begin to accept him as well. In LOVE - find him under the covers with a booklight giggling about chickens - in love.
